A nurse, a paramedic, a gymnast and her coach have formed a service for hire. They stand in for dead people by appointment, hired by the relatives, friends, or colleagues of the deceased. The company is called the Alps. Their leader, the paramedic, calls himself Mont Blanc. Although Alps members operate under a disciplined regime demanded by their leader, the nurse does not. Lanthimos’s follow-up to his Academy Award®-nominated (and cult sensation) Dogtooth is another darkly funny, absurdist vision of (in)human relationships. Alps premiered at the 68th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay.
