The Last Chapter: Goodbye Nicaragua
Friday 4:00 p.m., Vinegar Hill
2012. Sweden/Nicaragua. 101 min. Director: Peter Torbiornsson.
In 1984, Swedish journalist Peter Torbiornsson half-wittingly participated in a bombing at La Penca, Nicaragua that killed seven people and wounded twenty-two others. At the time, the CIA was held responsible – their alleged involvement framed as an effort against the Contra Revolutionaries. Torbiornsson was the one person who could have prevented this assault, but at that moment remained silent. Having lived with this guilt for two and a half decades, he returns to Nicaragua to confront the past and lay bare a true history through this film. The film is urrently banned in Nicaragua, and now makes its North American debut.
