2012. Thailand/Laos. 61 min. Director: Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s follow-up feature to his Palme d’Or-winning Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives is even more of an experimental departure for the director than his previous works. Chopping up and blending together elements of romance, sci-fi, and documentary, the film is a lyrical and perplexing look at the inhabitants of the titular hotel on the Mekong River dividing Thailand and Laos. While a young romance blossoms and elders reminisce with the director about the cyclical flooding of the river, their vampire-like spirit neighbor has other affairs to attend to.
