Wagner’s sole comic opera has plenty of pomp and circumstance. That makes his Overture to Die Meistersinger a fitting companion to Sir Edward Elgar’s orchestral masterpiece, the Enigma Variations. Elgar’s appealing character sketches memorialize friends and family, highlighted by the immortal Nimrod Variation. Between Wagner and Elgar, we hear Beethoven’s most poetic and spellbinding piano concerto: a winning combination!

Wagner - Prelude to Die Meistersinger, WWV 96
Beethoven - Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58
Elgar - Enigma Variations, Op. 36

Kate Tamarkin - Conductor
Anne-Marie McDermott - Piano
