Celebrate the Holidays!
The Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra and the U.Va University Singers continue a festive community tradition, presenting the ninth annual Family Holiday Concerts on Saturday, December 7, at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, December 8, at 3:30 pm. Michael Slon, director of U.Va's premiere vocal ensemble, will conduct the performances at Old Cabell Hall on the Grounds of the University of Virginia.
Through the years, these popular concerts have launched the holiday season with an array of music ranging from the peaceful to the joyous. Concertgoers young and old, naughty and nice, will recognize favorites that make them positively glow: "Silent Night", "Carol of the Bells", "The Twelve Days of Christmas", excerpts from Handel's Messiah and many more! Bluegrass fiddler Richard Will will join the orchestra for bluegrass renditions of holiday favorites, and on Sunday, December 8th former Governor of Virginia Gerald L. Baliles will conduct the orchestra in a rendition of Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride".
This much-loved annual event is sure to get your whole family in the holiday spirit! Children of all ages are welcome, and they'll love interacting with the orchestra and hearing all of the different instruments.
The Saturday concert is generously sponsored by Hantzmon Wiebel LLC.
