Description

Our last concert of the 2022-23 UVA Chamber Music Series features multiple mixed-instrument chamber ensembles on Sunday, April 16th at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall.

The concert begins with Serenata in Vano by Carl Nielsen.  This string and wind quintet will be performed by Adam Carter, Cello; Peter Sparr, Double Bass; Jiyeon Choi, Clarinet; Elizabeth Roberts, Bassoon; Cody Halquist, Horn.

Concert Trio for Clarinet, Horn, and Bassoon by Bernhard Henrik Crusell is the second piece of the concert performed by Jiyeon Choi, Cody Halquist and Elizabeth Roberts.

Duetto No.3 by Niccolò Paganini will be performed by Dan Sender, Violin; and Elizabeth Roberts, Bassoon.

The final piece on the program is Till Eulenspiegel – einmal anders! by Richard Strauss and arranged by Franz Hasenöhrl. Einmal anders means “Another Way” or “For once differently”. Hasenöhrl reduced a full orchestra to an ensemble of five. Thus, 16 first and 16 second violins were reduced to a single violin, and the double bass was used as a substitute for the entire percussion section. This Strauss piece will be performed by, David Sariti, Violin; Peter Sparr, Double Bass; Jiyeon Choi, Clarinet; Elizabeth Roberts, Bassoon; and Cody Halquist, Horn.

The UVA Chamber Music Series presents innovative performances by the University of Virginia's world-class performance faculty and celebrated guest artists, in six performances for the University and the central Virginia community. These intimate concerts are programmed to offer both new and traditional works that will delight the novice as well as the well-tempered critic.  The UVA Chamber Music Series is directed by Jiyeon Choi.

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA’s historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda. (map) Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner.  Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
