Part of the 2018-2019 Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia season

The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia and the UVA University Singers join forces to present their annual Family Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 2 at 3:30 pm. Michael Slon, director of UVA's premiere vocal ensemble and music director of the Oratorio Society of Virginia, will conduct the performances at Old Cabell Hall on the Grounds of the University of Virginia.

Through the years, these concerts have become an eagerly awaited holiday tradition. This year’s program is brimming with festive favorites for concertgoers young and old: Carol of the Bells, Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, Evening Prayer from Hansel and Gretel, John Williams’ Harry’s Wondrous World from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah.

Local jazz saxophonist and Free Bridge Quintet member Jeff Decker makes a cameo appearance in “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland.” And an annual tradition, The Twelve Days of Christmas with audience participation, always results in hilarious fun.

Ensembles of orchestra musicians will welcome audiences in the lobby with holiday carols.

Sponsorship support of the Family Holiday Concerts is provided by the accounting firm of Hantzmon Wiebel and the Office of the Provost and Vice Provost for the Arts at the University of Virginia.

The Family Holiday Concerts last approximately two hours, with one 15-minute intermission.

The Symphony does not recommend Holiday concerts for children under the age of 6. Babies in arms are not permitted into either concert hall. All children must have their own purchased tickets and must be seated with an adult. The Old Cabell Hall lobby and restrooms are wheelchair accessible, but there are stairs down to the orchestra and orchestra circle sections and up to the balcony. Wheelchair-accessible seating is available.

Parking
Free parking for both Family Holiday Concerts is available in the Central Grounds Parking Garage.
